Wild & Free: Discover local edible & medicinal plants
Named after the renowned Irish classic book on foraging by Cyril & Kit Ó Ceirín of Lisdoonvarn, ‘Wild & Free: Discover local edible & medicinal plants’ a talk by qualified Herbalist Vivienne Campbell, will cover many common plants that can be used as nutritious wild foods, as well as herbal medicines. Many of these foods are forgotten now, but at one time were staple foods in Ireland.

This event forms part of Loughrea Medieval Festival – 25th-27th August, 2017.
The festival is organised by Loughrea Medieval Festival Committee, in partnership with Irish Walled Towns Network, Galway County Council and The Heritage Council.

Complimenting Heritage Week’s theme ‘It’s In Your Nature’, this year’s Loughrea Medieval Festival theme is “Forget-me-not” – a reminder of our natural heritage, but also, not to forget Loughrea’s medieval heritage. Loughrea Medieval Festival 25th-27th August is a unique, free and not-to-be missed commemorative weekend the whole family will enjoy.
About Vivienne Campbell
Vivienne Campbell BSc (Hons) qualified as an herbalist in 2003. She is based in Ireland where she runs a clinic and teaches classes on herbal medicine, wild food foraging and natural cosmetic-making. She is a passionate environmentalist and is dedicated to showing people the wonderful therapeutic & edible plants that grow all around them. She has been involved with the Irish Seed Savers Association since 2004. She takes wild food & medicinal herb foraging walks at various locations around the country, supporting organic farmers and producers as she does this.
Vivienne is a popular speaker at international conferences and local events. She has appeared on Irish television numerous times, including a weekly foraging feature with celebrity chef Richard Corrigan. She was also interviewed for the upcoming documentary, Uncommon Scents: The Movie, currently in production in the USA and featuring such natural medicine luminaries as Robert Tisserand and Jeanne Rose. Vivienne loves teaching people how to use herbs simply, effectively and joyfully. She believes that learning to use local plants helps us as humans to heal, helps us to appreciate our environment and helps us to love and cherish the earth.
