Medieval Fun Run

Sunday, 31st August, 11am | The Walks, Loughrea
Organised by Loughrea Athletic Club in association with Loughrea Medeival Festival, this family friendly fun Walk/Jog will run along The Walks. Assembly in Station Road Car Park, the walk/jog takes place at 11am.
Costume encouraged, but not essential. Free entry.

Medieval Parade

Sunday, 31st August, 1pm | The Walks, Loughrea

Inspired by our Medieval past, participants of all ages are invited to dress in themed costumes inspired by the Middle Ages, and join this parade of music, and dance. The parade will run along The Walks, where Loughrea’s moat can be viewed at its best, past the Westbridge, where one of the three town gates once stood, into the Fair Green for the start of the Walled Towns Medieval Family Fun Day.

2pm – 5pm | Fair Green (next to Courthouse)
An afternoon full of free family Medieval fun!

Claíomh re-creates a live and authentic image of Medieval life c.1350-1600, with Medieval weapons display, re- enactments, Medieval clothing, and Medieval games.

Medieval Craft Demonstrations. Discover the ancient skills and techniques of Medieval crafts. Demonstrations include Blacksmith, Archer, Potter, Leather Worker, Spinning and Wool Craft, and Traditional Butter Maker.

Falconry Display. See birds of prey at close quarters, with Animal Magic Falconry Display. View the high-flying, fast-moving raptors flying demonstrations, a simulated hunting demonstration, as well as a selection of small animals.

Irish School of Historical Combat.
Displaying a collection of weaponry and armour, both authentic and modern, members of the public can try on the armour, and hold a sword or battle axe.

Browse the Artisan Craft and Food Market. You can buy a great mix of local produce, and a wonderful collection of arts and crafts.

Meet farm animals up close, including goats, ducks, sheep, geese, and rabbits, from Kiltimagh Mobile Pet Farm.

Medieval Playtime. Families will enjoy the Children’s area with educational, hands-on, creative activities including, Medieval games, a drop in Medieval make and do workshop with Loughrea Craft Club, Medieval themed stories, colouring competition, Face Painting, and lots more.

Arts Entertainment Area. Harpist, and Strolling musicians from Galway Early Music, along with BAFFLE Poetry Society, Loughrea Choral Society, and many more.
