Loughrea’s 4th Medieval Festival gets go-ahead after Council funding boast

Loughrea Medieval Festival organisers are delighted to partner with Galway County Council under the Community Support Scheme 2017, Irish Walled Towns Network and The Heritage Council.

Join Loughrea Medieval Festival for a weekend of free Medieval family fun as we recreate medieval life in all its glory – Friday 25th – Sunday 27th August 2017. Walled Towns in Loughrea will take place Sunday 27 August, 1pm – 5pm, at Fairgreen, Loughrea.

Complimenting Heritage Week’s theme ‘It’s In Your Nature’, Loughrea Medieval Festival’s 2017 theme is “Forget-me-not” – a reminder of our natural heritage, but also, not to forget Loughrea’s medieval heritage.

From Friday 25 – Sunday 27 August, the medieval town of Loughrea, Co. Galway will once again host a spectacular free weekend of events at the 4th annual Loughrea Medieval Festival. The award winning festival is now the biggest and best medieval festival in Ireland. Walled Towns Day in Loughrea will take place on Sunday 27 August.

Those wishing to take part in Loughrea Medieval Festival 2017 are invited to submit proposals and ideas to the Festival for consideration. Please include:

Founded in 1236, Loughrea is truly distinctive, as it has the only surviving functioning Medieval Moat in Ireland. A reminder that this is a medieval festival, so please keep this in mind if considering submitting a proposal

Official poster of the 3rd annual Loughrea Medieval Festival has just been unveiled. The image, designed by artist Damien Goodfellow incorporates this years festival theme ‘Loughrea 780’, recognising 780 years since the foundation of the medieval town of Loughrea.

Loughrea Medieval Festival runs from Friday, August 26 – Sunday, August 28, 2016. The festival weekend in Loughrea, County Galway is free for the public to attend, thanks to partnership with The Heritage Council, Irish Walled Towns Network, Galway County Council and support from Fáilte Ireland and IPB Insurance.

Community Tourism Diaspora Initiative offered to Loughrea Medieval Festival

It’s grant funding season and Loughrea Medieval Festival are delighted to receive news, via Galway County Council Evaluation panel for the Community Tourism Diaspora Initiative, that the Loughrea Medieval Festival (26th – 28th August, 2016) has been approved for the maximum sum of €1000.

The Community Tourism Diaspora Initiative 2016 is a joint partnership between Galway County Council (galway.ie), IPB Insurance (ipb.ie) and Fáilte Ireland (failteireland.ie).

The amount awarded will be based on the number of overseas visitors attending the Loughrea Medieval Festival weekend. The minimum offered under this initiative is €500 and the maximum €3,000.

Great start to the grant application process – on Friday last, April 8, 2016 Loughrea Medieval Festival committee received written confirmation that the Loughrea Medieval Festival been approved heritage support funding by Galway County Council under the Community Support Scheme 2016.

This funding will make a healthy difference to the free events planned for the public on the last weekend of August, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August.

Loughrea Medieval Festival is set to return for a third year and would like to thank and acknowledge the support of Galway County Council.
