‘Loughrea 780’ – Commemorate 780 Years Of Loughrea

Loughrea Medieval Festival is a fun and educational family free event, which will take place from Friday, 26th August to Sunday 28th August, 2016 in Loughrea, County Galway as part of The Irish Walled Towns Network celebrations of National Heritage Week.
The town of Loughrea in County Galway is home to Ireland’s only functioning Medieval town moat. Last year, over 15,000 people attended Loughrea Medieval Festival events including mass in 1300 Abbey, Hurling Match, children’s medieval workshops, medieval museum collection, puppet show and a food and inn trail. Loughrea Walled Towns Day on Sunday featured battle re-enactments, craft demonstrations, children’s archaeological dig, medieval music, grand clan parade, hand on traditional crafts, food & crafts market and lots more.
