‘Loughrea 780’ – Commemorate 780 Years Of Loughrea

26th – 28th August, 2016

From Friday 26 – Sunday 28 August, all eyes will be on the medieval town of Loughrea, Co. Galway as its hosts a spectacular free weekend of events at the 3rd annual Loughrea Medieval Festival.

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Loughrea 780’, as the Anglo-Norman Richard De Burgo founded the medieval town of Loughrea in 1236. Loughrea is home to Ireland’s only functioning Medieval town moat.

2016 Loughrea Medieval Festival, 26-28 August, is organised by Loughrea Medieval Festival Committee, in partnership with Irish Walled Towns Network and Galway County Council and with support from The Heritage Council, Department of the Taoiseach and the Local Diaspora Engagement Fund, Fáilte Ireland, and IPB Insurance.

Digital 3D Reconstruction of Medieval Loughrea – Phase 1

A movie reviewing the first iteration of a multi-phased project to build a detailed and extensive 3D reconstructed digital interpretation of how Loughrea, Co. Galway (West of Ireland) may have looked in the mid to late Medieval period.

This work has been developed by Realsim on behalf of Loughrea Medieval Festival, The Heritage Council and Galway County Council and has been funded by The Heritage Council and Galway County Council.
